I’ve been wondering what exactly it is that makes so many people love this time of the year. And I think I may have found the answer in  a viral Facebook video. Autumn stops us in our tracks, makes us stop and stare, thank God and reflect.

I just finished watching a video of a group of A Capella singers flash mobing a local Chick-fil-a. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a flash mob in person, but I’d like to. I think it’s neat that once someone starts singing everyone else just kind of freezes and stands there just watching and enjoying the moment. One by one other voices join in and you can’t help but think how cool the whole thing sounds. And you get all giddy realizing that you were there and you can’t help but smile.

I think that’s how it is with this time of the year. The holidays coming up force us to stop and reflect. To remember and sometimes even long for the “good ole days”. We find ourselves searching for just a little peace and quiet amid all the hustle and bustle. We desire a love deeper than this messed up world can offer and long to be a recipient of a Christmas miracle. We’re drawn to search for something more than what we’ve found. And every time, we find that Jesus is really the only hope and all that we really need in this life.

This is really just the beginning of that time of the year. The turning leaves remind us that sometimes letting our dreams die and embracing God’s bigger plan can be something beautiful. With the changing of the seasons we’re reminded of the warmth of home and the love of family. The coming of the harvest reminds us that our time here on this earth is short and we as followers of Jesus have work to do.

With each batch of vegetables canned and apple butter prepared we’re reminded of God’s provision. Each pumpkin carved reminds us of how God rescued us out of the pit of despair, gave us a smiling face and put His light in us to shine for all the dark world to see…

There’s so many things this time of the year that cause us to stop and smile…To remember God and His love for us. To count our blessings and thank Him for all that He’s done. What’s your favorite thing about the coming season?

Until next time,

Bailey Sue
