The weather has been a little depressing the past week. We just had a wonderful taste of Spring followed by a reminder that Winter isn’t quite over. In fact, a couple of days this week we’ve had some very minor snow storms. It’ll snow really hard for a couple of minutes, but thankfully it’s just a dusting of snow.

With all this wacky weather, the time change, and the cold I figured that we all could benefit from a little inspirational encouragement! So, today I’ve put together a list of my top 5 favorite Inspirational movies for you to enjoy! Although this list doesn’t come with a snack suggestion… 😉

1) “Facing the Giants”

I absolutely LOVE the Kendrick Brothers movies! We own every single one they’ve put out or been a part of. I’m also SUPER EXCITED to hear that movie #6 is in the works!! 🙂  But, I digress.

“Facing the Giants” was the very first Kendrick Brothers movie we ever watched and to this day it remains one of my favorite inspirational movies! There’s SO much that our family has gleaned from this movie over the years.

We have several references that come up in daily conversations or those occasional moments sitting in church trying not to bust out laughing when the preacher talks about the narrow and wide gates. Let’s not forget about building our stone wall, preparing for rain, or remembering WHY we’re playing in life’s game in the first place. We all can benefit from remembering that our attitudes are a direct correlation to the aroma of our hearts. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! If you’d like to add this movie to your collection you can do so HERE.

2) “Soul Surfer”

This movie depicts the true story of professional surfer Bethany Hamilton. As a warning to those who may watch this with young kids or those who don’t do well with blood please be mindful of the graphic attack scene. I’ve seen this movie several times and still watch the scene with my eyes closed the majority of the time. But the good news it that you have enough warning to grab the remote and fast forward. 🙂

This movie talks a lot about perseverance. It reminds us that we can “do all things through Christ” (Philippians 4:13). One of my favorite  lines is when Bethany is talking to her Dad discussing getting down from a regular size surfboard to a much smaller one for competition after loosing her arm. She confidently states, “I don’t need easy, I just need possible.”

I am reminded that although we can learn lessons when life seems “easy”, oftentimes we learn the most lessons when life is hard and we are encouraged to let perseverance finish its work in us (James 1:2-4, Romans 5:3-5). I’m reminded just how important faith is on our life’s journey. Faith in God is what makes even the most impossible things possible (Mark 9:23). If you’d like to add this movie to your collection you can do so HERE.

3) “War Room”

This is the newest Kendrick Brothers movie and another one of my favorites. It really makes me want to get a walk in closet!  This movie is a great way to give your prayer life that little push. It’s a great reminder of how important prayer is. SO often I tend to look at prayer as my last resort instead of my first line of defense. The movie does a GREAT job of showing how important spending time with God in prayer is and just how BIG God is and the ways that He’ll answer even the smallest prayers that we pray. It’s a good bouncing off point if you’ve ever wanted to pray scripture. And here’s a little bit of useless movie knowledge that you will probably NEVER use again but I think is really cool.

This is the only Kendrick Brothers movie (that I am aware of) in which BOTH brothers get screen time!! 🙂 Alex (The brother that you probably associate with being in all the other movies plays Coleman Young–One of the head-honchos where Tony Jordan works) And Stephan (who’s usually not seen in any of the other movies) is the Emcee of the jump rope competition. And as a bonus, the movie had a GREAT soundtrack! If you’d like to add this movie to your collection you can do so HERE.

4) “The Blindside”

There are so many good things to say about this movie! I love the importance placed on family and sticking up for and protecting our families. One of the things that my Mom has drilled into my head over the years is to cherish and build the relationships that I have with my siblings because they will always be there for me. The movie does a great job of showing what it looks like to stand up for what we know is right even when it’s hard. I love the fact that this movie makes you laugh and think all at the same time! If you’d like to add this movie to your collection you can do so HERE.

5) “Mom’s Night Out”

I’m not even sure where to start with this movie. It is one of my absolute favorites! I won’t share too many details because I really don’t want to ruin it for you. The one piece of advice that I have for you is PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL SNACKING WHILE THE MOVIE IS PLAYING!! The cast is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! In fact, several of the cast members from the Kendrick Brothers movie “Courageous” are in this movie as well!

And I’m seriously thankful that I’m not the only one to have all those issues with paper towel dispensers. There’s this one stop that we make on the way to visit family that has a paper towel dispenser that doesn’t always work and I crack up EVERY. TIME. I’m in there… (: I’m pretty sure anyone else in the near vicinity thinks that I’m crazy…But hey, God gets it and that’s what counts, right?

I love that this movie echoes so much of what this blog is all about. Finding joy and contentment in even the most mundane and chaotic days of our lives. I don’t have children and this movie inspires me every single time that I watch it. It’s a great reminder to pay less attention to the crowd and what we feel like we should be doing because So-and-so is doing it and it’s working for her; and paying more attention to what we feel like God is calling us to do.

I think so often in this life we forget that God gave us the dreams, lives, and children that He did for a REASON. We are uniquely created by God for both the joys and challenges that our life will give us. So often we think that we aren’t good enough, but here’s the truth. Jesus has made us enough. And when we stop looking around at what we aren’t and start looking at who God made us to be I think we’d all be a little happier! If you’d like to add this movie to your collection you can do so HERE.

Until next time,

Bailey Sue
