Growing up Easter was always the one holiday we spent at home. We got up early on Easter Sunday so that we could go through our baskets. Then we’d get ready for Church in our new Spring outfits. After Church we’d come home and have Dinner. Usually Ham and potatoes, a veggie or two, dinner rolls, and some sort of Springy dessert.
As we grew up we started attending a couple of conventions each year that fell on or around Easter Sunday. So, we we’re usually traveling or getting ready to travel. Last year after deciding to forgo our usual conventions we traveled to see family the day before and then spent Sunday with our Church Family and had lunch at Cracker Barrel (a new tradition that we developed during our previous convention seasons and decided to keep).
This Easter felt vastly different than in years past though in reality not much has changed.
We got up and spent a little extra time getting ready. Instead of wearing sweats or pajamas we decided to color coordinate and wear jeans. We attended Church from the comfort of our couch and decided to watch a couple of episodes from “Drive Thru History–The Gospels” as well. We finished making our Easter dinner of Ham, Cheesy Potatoes, Garlicy Green Beans, Deviled Eggs, and Key Lime Pie. After eating and straightening up the kitchen we spent the rest of the day resting.
We had a relaxing day at home and were reminded of the HOPE that we have because of Jesus. We have NOTHING to fear because He has overcome the world (John 16:33). Our day-to-day lives have been drastically shifted and in some cases turned upside down. But amid the chaos and uncertainty ONE truth remains…
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
The God that miraculously freed Israel from years of Egyptian bondage, parted the Red Sea, made the walls of Jericho come tumbling down, and left the tomb empty to walk the earth again after dying a horrific death on the cross is THE VERY SAME GOD WORKING IN OUR WORLD TODAY! Though life may feel upside down, twisted around, and uncertain God isn’t. He’s got this and He’s got you by the hand lovingly guiding and helping you day by day (Psalm 139:10).
Until next time,
