Everyday Miracles…

Something that I’ve realized recently is that we can become so focused on the big picture in life that we often forget the little things. Those little ways that God reassures us of His love and constant presence.

On Saturday night our family watched a movie called “Miracles from Heaven”. (NOTE: This movie contains a lot of medical images that some may find disturbing.) I found it to be really deep and tense and some parts were hard to watch; but I have to say that I really enjoyed it. It’s about a little girl named Annabelle who gets diagnosed with a rare and incurable stomach disease. As the story starts to unfold we see how difficult this is for Annabelle and her family. Their faith and finances are tested, their lives turned upside down, and they’re separated. Mom and Annabelle are in Boston for treatment and Dad and the other two sisters are in Texas.

What we don’t fully see until the end of the film (seriously by far the BEST PART) is how God intervened. Yes, Annabelle was healed and that’s a miracle, there’s no doubt about that. But we also see the little ways that God showed up. A friend showing up in the middle of the night to stay with the other kids while Mom and Dad rush Annabelle to the hospital even though she has a young baby of her own. A waitress in Boston who takes Annabelle and her mom under her wing and is now part of the family. A new receptionist who puts her job on the line to save the life of a little girl. A little boy who offers to go to the library with Annabelle just because. And ya’ll that’s literally just the tip of the iceberg.

Seeing this movie reminded me that there really are miracles that happen everyday and we don’t even know the half of it. Here lately God’s been showing me (and reminding me) that I need to be who HE says that I am and follow His plan for my life. He’s encouraged me in the smallest of ways. Our church’s theme for 2019 is “Come, Follow Me.” which echoes my own theme of Being Who God Has Called Me To Be.  I’ve seen posts on Instagram reaffirming this idea numerous times already this year and I’ve even found inspiration on the back of a cereal box!

I really want to encourage you to take a look around your own life and try to see all the little ways that God shows up day in and day out.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8).

Until next time,

Bailey Sue
