2021 Bird's Eye Garden View

Friends, Family, + Food

Usually, the month of July is pretty quiet around the homestead. This year, it’s been fairly busy; but the good kind of busy. The kind of busy where’s there’s smiles, laughter, hard work, and memories being made.

There’s not too much to do in the garden right now. To be honest, it looks a little like a thriving jungle.

Since the pumpkins haven’t accidentally been sprayed by weed killer they’re thriving (and encroaching on the tomatoes and brussels sprouts). Most of the corn has bounced back 😀 and we’re even starting to see a few tassels! But since we also planted pole beans in the same bed a lot of the standing corn is being used as a pole for our pole beans which are doing well.

Thankfully, we haven’t been swarmed with produce yet, but we will be very soon!

So far we’ve harvested six or seven yellow zucchini that we’ll need to freeze-dry or freeze this coming weekend. We need to pull the beets and pickle them at some point too. We can’t forget about the few hot peppers we harvested that we want to turn into hot pepper jelly. And just today we were able to harvest a few cucmbers and some carrots!

Oh, and we can’t forget about the PEACH TREES! Y’all there are SO many peaches on the peach trees! It makes me SO happy!!😁 I can’t wait to try them once they ripen!

Peaches on the Peach Tree

I’m thankful for this little lull in the garden work because it’s giving us time to visit family. With everyone’s ever-changing busy schedules we usually see them once or twice a year for the holidays. This year, though between a family wedding and a graduation party (which I’m hoping contains Peanut Butter Fudge😉), we’ve had plenty of time to catch up! And it’s been fun!

And I couldn’t help but mention our new neighbors! 😉

They’ve been moving in slowly over the past couple of months but are finally starting to get settled. We were able to get better acquainted over the past couple of weeks and we’ve quickly become friends. Bonding over our mutual love of fluffy cats, Highschool Musical, and old-fashioned things! I’ve spent quite a bit of time chatting with them over the last couple of weeks about any number of various things and have really enjoyed the time together. 😊 It’s been really great to get out of the house every once in a while and talk with someone who understands my musical references, love of old Disney shows, and can rival me when it comes to useless trivia. I look forward to getting to know them better and our soon-to-be annual Christmas cookie baking/cookie exchange!

Life may be busy, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be bad or rushed. It just means that it’s full of so many wonderful blessings! After this past year, I don’t ever want to take in-person visits, or hugs, or large gatherings for granted…
