Giving Yourself Grace

“And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.”

~Matthew 14:23

I’ve been reminded lately that I need to give myself a little grace. Sometimes life gets really crazy and then it gets back to normal. Other times life gets crazy and then we have to adjust to a new normal.

That’s what’s happening now. We moved in November; unpacked in record time. Then celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas. After the first of the year, we jumped headfirst into a couple of really great opportunities. On top of that, we have had to get adjusted to having extra chores and a brand new layout of the house.

Now as we head into Spring which happens to be our busy season. I’m reminded of the simple truth that I need to give myself grace. I need to remember that just because most of the boxes are unpacked doesn’t mean that we have adjusted. Getting adjusted takes time. It takes a lot of trial and error; getting used to living life in this house and the myriad of new things that we will be able to experience here that we didn’t get to in the old house.

Today I was able to just sit outside and chat. I didn’t worry too much about working. It was a really nice day and it was really relaxing to just sit and talk about life. Where we’ve been and where we are now. It always amazes me how God works in our lives. How it is that He gently reminds us that we need rest. We need time to rejuvenate and just be. After all, even Jesus went off by Himself in the middle of His crazy, busy, fulfilling days to pray.

We need to remember that every once in a while it’s okay to take life a little slower. We need to know that sometimes we need to just take a step back and make sure to really take care of ourselves. Read our Bibles and pray, stay hydrated and exercise, and eat right and remember to rest. It’s not a crime, in fact, Jesus encourages it (see Matthew 11:28-30).

Until next time,
