I’ve been meaning to sit down and write a “Friday Blessings” post for the last 2 weeks. However, life happens and time just keeps getting away from me. I plan on trying harder to make updating the blog more of a priority this coming week. (:

As I said earlier in a social media update we’ve been busy lately. Getting the house in order, a new routine established, and decluttering since the first of the year. Decluttering is something I really enjoy. I’m not a minimalist by any means, I’m actually more of a hoarder. But I get a thrill out of going through boxes, closets, and dressers getting rid of old, unwanted, or unused items. I love to see the trash and donate piles get larger and ultimately see everything put back in a more organized fashion.

While working up in the attic yesterday we even found an entire box of decorations that we forgot that we had! So last night we spent a few minutes adding the decorations to the basement.

And this is where it gets really interesting…

We were up and at ’em early this morning. We had plans at 8 am, were up at 6, and started right away. I started in on some of the cooking and Dad went down and started a fire in the downstairs fireplace to take some of the chill out of the basement. A few minutes later he CALMLY comes upstairs asking where one of the pet spray bottles is because there was something wrong with the flew.

So, I’m thinking there’s a small amount of smoke, hence the spray bottle. Actually, the entire basement was filling with thick smoke and starting to drift up the stairs, setting the smoke alarm off!

By this point, normal people would have called 9-1-1.

Us? We put Bradley’s training to work and let him practice positive/negative pressure ventilation. Basically, we made use of every fan, opened several windows, and propped open the front door to get all the smoke out!

We were near frozen and wondered if we’d ever get the house warm again, but it worked!

I’m thankful for many things today. Including the fact that Dad and Bradley are SUPER clear-headed in the midst of chaos. Nobody really panicked, considering. Even me, who tends to panic and freeze when things get sketchy wasn’t panicking! I just made sure to keep my phone close just in case.

We were able to work together altering our plans at the last minute, and still getting everything underway just a few minutes later than we had planned! I’m thankful that Bradley (the trained fire-fighter) was home today. I’m thankful the house didn’t burn down, the smoke dissipated quickly, and the house got warm and toasty again! It didn’t rain and the sun shone helping to heat the house even more!

If the last three weeks are any indication I have a feeling that 2021 is going to be pretty interesting. It hasn’t disappointed yet…

Until next time,

Bailey Sue
