I have a confession to make: I’m not good at prioritizing. I know what needs to be done but I don’t complete the tasks in the best way. The things that are harder or that I just loathe doing are oftentimes the very last things to get done. If they get done at all.
I didn’t realize how big of a problem this had become until recently. As I’m working to move forward with a couple of projects I realized that I had neglected a couple of very important things. This got me thinking a lot about how I prioritize my days and what’s really first in my life.
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
~Matthew 6:33
As we read the Bible we are reminded again and again that our relationship with God needs to be our top priority. We are reminded of God’s great love for us; His jealously for us. “You must worship no other gods, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.”–Exodus 34:14
“I have given you an example to follow, Do as I have done to you”
~John 13:15
While Jesus was walking here on this earth He set us an example to follow. He showed us how to live, love, and die. As I read the stories of Jesus there’s always one thing that continues to stick out to me: His prayer life. Here’s what I mean. We see recorded in various places that Jesus went off by himself to pray (see Mark 1:35 & Luke 5:16). He took the time to seek God’s will before He tackled the day ahead.
I’m learning that one of the most important things that we can do each day is to start the day with God. If we follow Jesus’s example and seek Him first He’ll supply the rest. He’ll give us the wisdom to conquer our tasks–even those we loathe.
Until next time,
Bailey Sue
