Relying on Jesus…

I don’t know what it is about this house but we seem to loose our power quite frequently! This morning at about 3:30 both Daddy and JoJo woke up and realized that the power was out (I was still sound asleep thankfully)…

When Daddy got up to get ready for work it was still out and predicted to be back on at 8:00 AM. So, we just decided to sleep in an hour (Woo-hoo!). The power was then predicted to be back on at 10 AM. Since we live on a well now it was easier just to let us sleep an hour than go outside and hook up the generator for an hour of water and what-not. When we looked again the power was predicted to back on at noon.

So, we ended up waking up at 9 AM and trying to hook up the generator  and just as we were about done; guess what? THE POWER CAME BACK ON! (Does this happen to anyone else or is it just us?).

This got me thinking. There’s so many things each day that we depend on electricity for. Making coffee, cooking, laundry, light, heat, air conditioning, WiFi, internet, etc. We don’t realize how much electricity we use until we don’t have it. And then it appears that we need it for everything.

I was reminded that just like I need electricity for both the simple tasks and the somewhat challenging or unpleasant tasks each day I need Jesus more.

Psalm 62:5-12 gives us a little direction about relying on God.

“My soul, wait silently for God alone,
For my expectation is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense;
I shall not be moved.
In God is my salvation and my glory;
The rock of my strength,
And my refuge, is in God.
Trust in Him at all times, you people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us.
Surely men of low degree are a vapor,
Men of high degree are a lie;
If they are weighed on the scales,
They are altogether lighter than vapor.
Do not trust in oppression,
Nor vainly hope in robbery;
If riches increase,
Do not set your heart on them.
God has spoken once,
Twice I have heard this:
That power belongs to God.
Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy;
For You render to each one according to his work.”

Maybe if we stopped relying so much on the ever changing world to supply our needs and start to rely on the God who created it we’d have a little bit more peace in our lives…

Until next time,

Bailey Sue
