I Can Only Imagine Movie with Text

When my Aunt and her family came down to visit in July she surprised me by bringing her copy of the movie “I Can Only Imagine” and an extra copy of the book “Goliath Must Fall” by Louie Giglio.

A bit of an interesting backstory: I grew up listening to country music and every so often they’d play the song “I Can Only Imagine”. So, MercyMe was the 1st ever Christian band that I ever listened to and the first Christian album I ever remember our family buying (Daddy bought the whole album just for that one song). And I’m still a fan of theirs today! (:

Anyway back to the movie. I LOVED IT! The one thing (of several) that stuck out to me in the movie was the fact that Bart had to take a step back and go home to face his giant. The voice in his life that for so long had unknowingly defined him. This voice caused him to question his ability and doubt the true talents that God had given him. He went home and faced this giant head-on. Although he was never able to forget the hurtful words and actions of his “monster” he was, with God’s help able to forgive this giant and find freedom.

In the book “Goliath Must Fall” Louie Glglio walks you through how to defeat the giants that plague your life. Over the years I’ve spent lots of time and money on courses from people who have “been there, done that” and “understand” what it’s like to be in the trenches so to speak. Being bound by things like fear and discontentment. Each and every time I’m left with a good list of principles but no real way to apply them to my life and find this freedom these people speak of. With the book Goliath Must Fall” I feel like Louie Giglio really has been there, done that and found freedom and he wants to share that freedom with those who read the book…

Now, I’m taking it kind of slow so that I can really try to apply what it is that I’m reading. But so far I LOVE THIS BOOK. I haven’t even finished the first chapter yet and I’ve already found so many nuggets of wisdom and most importantly HOPE that I don’t have to stay bound by things like fear. With God’s help, I too, can find and live in this freedom!

As I continue reading and learning more about how to defeat the giant of fear. I’m realizing that we all have a choice…The Word of God is 100% TRUTH (John 17:17b). If we choose to commit our lives to Christ and follow Him, He will give us everything we need for “life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3). He even gave us His Spirit to intercede for us and guide us (Romans 8:26, Romans 8:14). And if that wasn’t enough He promises to be with us Every. Step. Of. The. Way. (Hebrews 13:5b-6).

I’ve always been told and said on here a time or two that we just need to change our thought process. To tell the Devil that we are just NOT going to go there and think about something else. But truthfully, I’ve struggled with this.  I can say that I’m not gonna go there but that just doesn’t cut it. You actually have to do something…retrain your thought pattern…

As I was thinking about this I wondered if renewing your mind and being transformed starts with focusing our minds on the right things. The truth found in God’s Word. Physically reminding ourselves that God has always and will always come through for us. Telling ourselves what it is that HE SAYS ABOUT US. Silencing the Devil’s lies with the truth that he has been defeated and we are more that conquers (Hebrews 2:14-15, Romans 8:37)…

Until next time,

Bailey Sue
