If you’ve followed me for any length of time you probably know that I LOVE listening to music. For the past couple of years I’ve used songs as the inspiration for my yearly theme and at any given point throughout the year I have a selection of at least 10 songs that I really enjoy, or encourage me, or both.
One of the days that I look forward to each year is the day that we pull out the Christmas music. There’s so many C.D.’s and records that we could play one per day from November 1st to December 25th and not repeat any… But we also have a couple of C.D.s filled with Halloween music (Similar C.D.’s linked below)…
One day a few months ago I woke up with the chorus to “Somebody’s Watching Me” (one of the songs from the Halloween CD) stuck in my head and it reminded me of something…
I would imagine the song “Somebody’s Watching Me” is intended to make people a little uneasy. But today I want to “tell” you something about this song that should make you smile instead of run away in fear.
“Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, ‘Have I also here seen Him who sees me?'”
~Genesis 16:13
God didn’t just give us the Bible and tell us how to live He showed us…He didn’t leave us here to fend for ourselves He gave us His Spirit to help us remember what He taught and to guide us (Romans 5:6-8, John 14:16-17, John 15:26).
He is involved in every single aspect of what goes on in this world. He appoints our governments (Romans 13:1) and He has an overarching plan for this world that is far far bigger than anything we as humans can comprehend. God sees the big picture and wants all humanity to have a relationship with Him (1 Timothy 2:4). And yet, He is intimately involved in each and every one of our lives.
“‘Am I a God near at hand,’ says the LORD,
‘And not a God afar off?
Can anyone hide himself in secret places,
So I shall not see him?’ says the LORD;
‘Do I not fill heaven and earth?’ says the LORD.”
~Jeremiah 23:23-24
There is NO where on this earth (or out of this earth) where God can’t find us (Hebrews 4:13). He knows us, He created us, and He’s always always there. That knowledge can be a little unnerving…unsettling even. I mean, it’s kinda creepy if you really think about it. But is it??
In reading the Bible we see that God is love…He showed us that love when Jesus took the punishment that we deserved upon Himself by dying on the cross. He has promised to be with us; to help us through life one day at a time and to give us a way of escape when temptation comes (1 Corinthians 10:13). He has assured us that the plans that He has for our lives are good and that everything we face in life both the good and the bad will be used for our good and His glory–NOTHING that we go through is ever wasted (Romans 8:28).
And if we follow Him to the best of our ability and follow the words of the Bible He has promised us Eternal life. Life after death where there are NO tears, sorrow, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4). Won’t that be something?!?
As we lead up to Halloween and the days after I really want to encourage you to remember that you have Somebody watching you. Somebody that loves you unconditionally and will be with you through all that you face…Let that thought encourage you today!
Until next time,
Bailey Sue
