The Stories We Will Tell…

If you’ve been following me on Social Media lately you know that we’ve been busy on the Homestead. We’ve done the majority of our early Spring planting. Our seeds are started, the berry bushes and apple trees are all planted. The onions are in the garden and garlic on the window sill.

I’ve made more of an effort to get outside and help around the yard this year and as much as I do complain, I am enjoying it. We’re working on moving some things around so that we’ll be able to better utilize what we have. While eventually it’ll be WAY better, I dread moving the already stacked wood to new stackers. :/ Now if only we can get some dry and sunny weather…

During one of our many conversations someone made the comment that we’ll have some stories to share years down the road…

This is the jacket that my Great-Grandfather wore in WWII.

Some of my favorite memories are of the times I got to talk to my Great-Grandparents about growing up during The Great Depression and WWII. It was just their life that they told us about but their stories made the History books come alive. I will never forget reading “The Diary of Anne Frank”. I never read a more descriptive book or one that had a more chilling ending. But to know that that wasn’t a work of fiction is something else…

Just think about the different stories that we’ll have for our grandkids one day. Bradley’s first year as a Firefighter/EMT, there’s a Pandemic. JoJo’s Graduation will be different. Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles won’t be in attendance and her Grad party is pushed back almost 2 months and all those little things like the toilet paper shortage (of all things TOILET PAPER?!?)…

The past couple of weeks our church has held online services. I admit that I’m used to working on the couch in my jammies but attending Church in the living room watching on my T.V. as someone leads us around the Lord’s Table, reads scripture, or offers closing prayer from their own couch. It’s just strange. I’m SO thankful that technology has advanced enough to allow us to meet together though we’re apart.

However I can’t help but think of what it will be like when we can finally meet together under the same roof!

I have a feeling it’ll be a little piece of Heaven on Earth. There will be hugs, laughter, probably a few tears, and it will be SO LOUD but SO GOOD.

I hope that when this is over we’ll all be better off. More thankful for those things that we once took for granted. Grocery Store shelves that are fully stocked, toilet paper in abundance, getting together with friends, and meeting with our brothers and sisters on Sundays.

The next time someone comes up and swallows us in a giant bear hug let’s remember what it was like not to hug our friends or family for months. The next time you’re tempted to skip Church to sleep in remember what it was like not to meet together…I hope that this time forces us to reevaluate what’s important in life…

I hope to one day share stories with my own children about how one time there was this virus that spread all over the world. Everyone went out and bought all the toilet paper and store shelves were empty. Churches and businesses closed their doors but that didn’t stop us! We stepped up and helped each other. We checked on our neighbors, stepped away from all the news stories and spent time with our family.

And when it was finally over… we didn’t stop. Life didn’t go back to the rat race. We learned the gift of slowing down, and enjoying each day just at it came. We realized just how many blessings God had given us and we said “Thank you” a little more often…

“Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children, and your grandchildren.”
~Deuteronomy 4:9

Until next time,

Bailey Sue
