” …You were ransomed…not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ.”
~ 1 Peter 1:18a-19a (Emphesis mine)
I’ve done a little thinking lately about how the world views a person’s worth and how God determines a person’s worth. Society measures worth based on appearance. God measures worth based on the value that He has given you because you are His child.
If you read the Bible from front to back you will see woven in the pages a deep love. The Love that God has for His creation; His people. We as humans are the only part of His creation to be made in His image (Genesis 1:27). He gave us a free will. He didn’t have to–He chose to. God didn’t want us to love Him because we had to, but because we wanted to.
The world tells us that we aren’t good enough–that we have to look a certain way to be “liked”; But God tells us something very different: He says, “I made you, I know all about you. I love you. It’s not about how you look. I have made you worthy. There is nothing that you can do that will ever make me stop loving you.” (See Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:1-3, & 16, 1 Samuel 16:7, John 3:16, Romans 8:38-39)
I know that sometimes it’s very hard to believe that. Satan wants us to doubt that we are worthy of a love as grand as God’s. 1 Peter 5:8 says that Satan prowls around “looking for someone to devour.” Our goal is to stop him in his tracks. We need to recognize that he is on to us and begin to replace the thoughts that he has put into our head with the truth that is found in God’s word. Because Jesus was tempted just like we are, He is able to help us conquer our temptations (Hebrews 2:18).
Don’t ever forget that God thinks you’re beautiful just the way you are. The way He made you to be. Don’t let anyone tell you anything less.
“You are all together beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you.”
~ Song of Solomon 4:7
