Apples…

As I think about Autumn one of the things that comes to mind is apples. Freshly picked apples, apple pie, apple butter, apple sauce and you can’t forget caramel apples and apple cider.

Girl holding appleOne of my favorite memories of this time of the year is when we went to a local fruit farm and picked a bushel or two of apples and then went home and made apple butter, apple sauce, and apple pie filling. It was a lot of fun to work together and see who was able to get the peel off in one piece (It wasn’t me…I have yet to be blessed with that level of hand-eye coordination…).

As I was thinking about apples and all the yummy things associated with them I was reminded of the verses in the Bible that talk about us being the Apple of God’s eye.

~Psalm 17:8

Google defines the apple of my eye as “[Referring] to something or someone that one cherishes above all others…” Google defines cherish as to “protect and care for (someone) lovingly [and to] hold (something) dear.”

One of the synonyms for cherish is the word love. And you know what? God is LOVE (1 John 4:8). He loved us so much that He sent His Son to this earth to be the sacrifice that was needed so that we could live a life close to God.

“He found him in a desert land And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye”
~Deuteronomy 32:10

I love the way that this verse describes it. God found us in the dark wilderness of this world, encircled us in His love, taught us how to live a life pleasing to Him, and keeps us as the apple of His eye. Cherishing us, loving us, and encouraging us as we continue on the journey toward our forever home in Heaven with Him.

Until next time,
